2024 plans and productivity tips to get more things done in the new year

Caleb’s Newsletter

Happy Thursday and happy almost New Year!

I’ll be ringing in 2024 in Australia, one of the first countries to celebrate the new year. In typical fashion, I don’t have much of a set plan – for New Year’s Eve or the two-week trip in general. Hit me up if you live in Sydney!

I’m currently in California, putting together a plan and a vision for the next 12 months.

2023 was a big year – I continued touring apartments, I launched my “Free Rides in NYC” video series, and I started this newsletter – but I'm not one to rest on my laurels.

To assist my 2024 planning, I bought a massive, 48-by-36-inch wall calendar (it’s literally called “The Big A## Calendar”) that lets you see all 365 days in one view. It’s going to help me keep the big picture in mind.

I’ve got some fun projects in the works, including one with Drew Barrymore: We flipped the script and had her tour my New York City apartment. Look out for that one in early January.

In case you missed my recent content …

I posted an apartment tour from my recent trip to Miami with two sisters, Salome and Sara, and their roommate. Their setup was super cute and colorful and made me feel like I was in a sitcom.

When I asked about points of tension that come with having roommates, they were quick to answer: dirty dishes in the kitchen! I find that to be a universal roommate issue.

If you’re in Miami, check out Sara’s vintage clothing store, Peachtree Revival!

I also visited my friend Mark’s space in Brooklyn, which spans an entire city block! He’s an artist and his apartment doubles as his studio, which is brilliant in a place like New York where space is expensive and hard to come by.

Immediately upon walking in you can tell he’s an artist – it’s colorful, there are paintings lining the walls, and he has enough spray paint to stock shelves at Michaels – but he’s created a completely different vibe in his bedroom and it feels like a totally different space.

Ask me anything!

Shoot your questions to [email protected] and I’ll pick one each week to answer in the newsletter.

This week’s question: How do you get things done? Any productivity tips as we head into a new year?

Getting things done is just a function of having your priorities in check. Know what it is that you want to get done each day, focus your energy there, and be okay with saying “no” to things that aren’t additive.

For me, I’m often trying to complete anywhere from three to five things each day: film, edit, take a certain amount of phone calls, exercise, and sometimes socialize. I end up turning down a lot of requests. If I get invited to something that isn’t going to necessarily add value I’ll simply reply, “thank you for the invite but I can’t make it.”

I also live by reminders. Setting up alerts on my phone is the only way I’ll remember and complete tasks.

This week’s listing!

To give you guys an idea of what’s currently on the rental market in NYC I’m going to start including a listing in the newsletter.

Currently, the overall median rent in the city is $2,146, down 1.7% from last month. Prices remain up 2.2% year-over-year.

To give you an idea of what you can get with that budget in Manhattan – the center of New York City – here’s a listing for a $2,250 studio apartment in the east village.

Of course, the farther you’re willing to go out of Manhattan, the farther your money will stretch :)
