Eating pizza with Jada Pinkett Smith and training for the NYC Marathon

Caleb’s Newsletter

Happy Thursday!

If you’re new here, I send out a bi-monthly newsletter every other Thursday to keep ya’ll posted on what I’m up to and to share some fun BTS happenings from my latest videos.

It’s officially spooky season, which NYC takes very seriously. If you’re local (or visiting this month), check out the Upper East Side, which traditionally has some of the best Halloween decorations in the game.

What’s really spooky, though, is the fact that the New York City Marathon (which I’m running) is less than two weeks away on Sunday November 5 … !

I’ve done about 10 marathons – some sanctioned, some not – including two NYC Marathons and, most recently, the LA Marathon this past March.

My goal this time around is to finish feeling as good as possible. I’m going to really take my time and soak in the city. This race is iconic. You start on Staten Island, run through all five boroughs of NYC, and finish in Central Park. There are so many spectators lining the streets it feels more like a block party than a race!

If you’re spectating this year you can follow me on the TCS app. For those not local to NYC, look out for a race-day video I’ll be putting together :)

In case you missed my recent content …

I ate pizza with JADA PINKETT SMITH! She was unbelievably nice and cool.

She and Will have obviously been in the news a lot recently but we didn’t talk about any of that. We just ate really good pizza together at Patsy’s. I figured everyone has been asking her tough personal questions so why not go the opposite direction and keep it light-hearted and fun.

The way I see it is: Focus on your own relationships in your own life.

If you were wondering, I pay for the pizza :)

It’s funny because these people I do pizza reviews with have much higher net worths than me. But treating them to a pie, I’d say, is definitely money well spent.

I also toured an architect’s Williamsburg apartment! As expected, the space was super unique. It looked straight out of an ad.

Joe put about $14,000 into remodeling the space, and he doesn’t even own it! He told me that while he was renovating, his landlord came by. At first he was nervous because he didn’t exactly get permission to renovate. But his landlord went straight to the bar Joe installed, asked him to make him a drink, looked him straight in the eye with his drink in hand and said, “keep doing what you’re doing.”

As they say: Ask forgiveness, not permission …

Home products spotlight!

I tour a lot of homes and see a lot of neat items while doing it! Here are some that caught my eye the past couple of weeks.

This sleek, Danish design lighting will elevate any space.

One word: Groovy.

You’ll turn some heads with this display.

Ask me anything!

This week’s question: What did you study in college?

Funny enough, my college major had nothing to do with anything creative. I majored in business administration and minored in professional tennis management at Methodist University. Yes, you read that correctly and yes, that was a minor my school offered 😂

My very first job out of college was actually teaching tennis. I graduated in 2015, moved to New York City, and taught tennis at Sutton East Tennis Club on the Upper East Side of Manhattan until I was 26.

What I’m looking forward to …

I’m headed back to my alma mater this weekend for homecoming!

Methodist is a small school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It’ll be nice to see friends and family, and get in one last long run before race day … !
